Screen Printing Workshop inspired by Corita Kent

Name of Artist : Corita Kent
Nationality : American, LA
Era : 1960’s & 70’s
Art Movement : Pop Art

Corita Kent was a Los Angeles-based artist, educator, and activist who brought a vibrant, hopeful voice to the American pop art movement of the 1960s and ’70s. A Catholic nun for much of her early life, she ran the art department at Immaculate Heart College, where she used screen printing as a tool for social commentary and spiritual reflection. Her bold, typographic prints combined bright colours, hand-lettered quotes, advertising slogans, and poetry—often with messages of peace, love, and justice. Deeply influenced by the civil rights and anti-war movements, Kent’s work turned everyday language and imagery into powerful calls for change. Her legacy lives on through her impact on activist art, education, and the fusion of faith and creativity.
